Today I had the pleasure of taking part in a event at the Central Division roll call where the First Ward Community Fund gave two new bikes to CMPD for use in Uptown Charlotte and First Ward. The Fund is a non-profit corporation with a goal of helping to make the community a success. Thanks to the generosity of our board, our neighbors and uptown businesses we were able to purchase two bikes rather than one as originally intended. Caitlen Nelis of Queen City Cait Photography was kind enough to donate her time and talents as she photographed the event. WCNC news covered the donation in this story.

Charlotte to launch iPhone app to help residents report and check the status of problems around the city.

By Eric Frazier

The city of Charlotte’s about to launch a new iPhone application that will let residents do everything from complain about potholes to look for traffic accidents blocking their route to work.

City officials said the free app, called My Charlotte, will be available on Apple’s app store in 30 days. Versions for Blackberry and Android phones will follow. City Council member Warren Cooksey and Bellverie Ross, who helped lead the city staff’s work on the project, unveiled it Saturday at Barcamp, a free-flowing technology conference at the Area 15 conference center just north of center city…
